The surveillance capitalism economic system focuses on the capture of personal information for profit-making. Surveillance is made possible through the use of personal data by large corporations such as Google, Facebook, and Tesla. Collection and processing of data in the context of capitalism's core profit-making motives, however, does threaten the freedom, autonomy, and welfare of society.
